- Why are shows blocked (9:17)

In this podcast I ramble a bit about why I am playing Secret World Legends despite its shortcomings, and ponder on if I should stop or not. And I ramble about the asshats in Heroes of the Storm, how I don't like PvP, and ramble about why I may still be playing. Podcast 286: Not so Secret World Legends
July 8, 2017 - 36:08

- Secret World Legends (0:46)

In this podcast I discuss my top 5 points about the re-launch of The Secret World as the new free to play version Secret World Legends. There are good and bad points about the game, most of which I suspect are unchanged from the original launch. It's a solid free to play offering, horribly plagued by a terrible cash shop pricing structure.

Podcast 284: Puzzling robots
June 10, 2017 - 20:05

- Star Wars Puzzle Droids (iOS, Android) (0:20)

In this podcast I talk about Star Wars Puzzle Droids. This is a fairly typical match three style game, but there are a lot of interesting animations and Star Wars flavor going on in the background of the game. While the special moves stand out a bit from the competition, in the time I've played so far it doesn't really break the mold from what you expect of this kind of game. But, it's free to play, so if you are interested feel free to give it a try.

Podcast 282: Free things, meh
May 13, 2017 - 15:21

- Bomb Hunters (iOS, Android) and Shop Heroes (iOS, Android, Facebook) (0:30)

In this podcast I talk about two free to play mobile games. The first is Bomb Hunters which is basically a new school hybrid of Frogger and Bomber Man. You go through randomly generated levels trying to defuse the bombs before they go off. The second game is Shop Heroes, which requires you to be online. This is an odd resource management game in that you play as a shop keep trying to gear up adventurers. With your earnings you upgrade the town to unlock more heroes and more crafts.

Podcast 279: Among the stars
April 1, 2017 - 41:23

- Mass Effect: Andromeda (0:26)

In this podcast I talk about Mass Effect: Andromeda. I like the overall story and game play quite a bit. I talk about the new MMO style crafting elements, the changes to the skill and class system, and the various mini game types. The UI seems ok, but problematic at times, as the radar doesn't indicate range well, and crafting or merchant windows could be a lot clearer. The character animations feel flat compared to the voice acting, but I'm willing to forgive it due to being a new game engine and there being so much to animate. I have found a few annoying bugs, one which was game crippling in that I had to replay about 5 hours of game play, but most are fairly minor. The multiplayer component seems like it's underdeveloped, and pretty much a straight port of ME3 multiplayer. It seems like they could have done more. But overall I enjoy Andromeda quite a bit.

March 18, 2017 - 12:36

- Mass Effect: Andromeda (0:25)

In this podcast I talk a bit about Mass Effect: Andromeda, as I paid the little bit extra for the subscriber benefits so I could get an early peek at the game and hopefully calm my fears about being able to run it ok. As I'd hoped, even though I am below minimum specs I can run it ok, and so this week I talk about my 6 hour peek at the game so far.

In this podcast I talk about how the Long War 2 mod changes much of the core of the base game for XCOM 2. In this podcast I talk about how I haven't been doing much gaming the last few weeks. Due to a sudden panic and fear of death, as well as my constant homeless life worries, I have been shaken. Podcast 273: Space forever
January 7, 2017 - 15:13

- Everspace (0:38)

In this podcast I talk about Everspace, a space flight sim shooter game by Rockfish games. This is in early access for PC, so I haven't looked at it too much as I don't want to spoil it for myself, but it is very similar to the old arcade style space flight sim shooters of the old Wing Commander series, without the heavy story commitment. It's a quick to pick up and play randomized arcade action game which is really beautiful and super fun. Customization comes in the form of upgrading your pilot, the ship, and unlocking new ships.

Podcast 266: Driving in the wastelands
October 1, 2016 - 19:19

- Mad Max (PC, PS4, Xbox One)(0:21)

In this podcast I take an early look at the Mad Max game which, while most closely tied to the recent Fury Road movie, is set in the general Mad Max universe. I don't normally like open world games, but I like Mad Max quite a lot. There's driving, but it's not a pain like in most open world games. There are different locations to visit and take over, and they are quite varied and different from one another. And there is an over arching story which ties it all together. There is also a lot of lore, and for those who are fans of the Mad Max universe the lore seems like it fits right in.

Last podcast I said I'd have one out in a week, but it turns out I've been really sick, and have scabs and ickiness going on, so I didn't feel well enough to do anything. So this week is just an update that I'm feeling sick, and I'll try for getting back on schedule in two weeks.

In this podcast I talk about how the newest Doom is a perfect restart of the series. It retains all of the speed and fight of the first, while adding on an intriguing single player campaign which feels both engaging and true to the original storyline, while still adding new elements. - Grim Dawn (PC) (0:33)
- Elder Scrolls: Legends (PC, Mac, iOS, Android) (17:28)

In this podcast I talk about Grim Dawn, which is an action role playing game. It is made by the people behind Titan's Quest, so it shares a similar class based talent system. However, it differs from that, and other current A-RPGs in a few ways. Grim Dawn allows for a dual class system, allowing more flexibility in the build, items and item modifiers which allow skills from different classes, and an additional layer of customization through what they call the devotion system. It has a vast amount of customization, however, level ups feel like they have very little meaning because of this, and the customization actually feels overly complex in a bad way. Additionally the maps are static, providing seemingly little replay value since the maps (and theoretically monster and boss positions) would remain the same every time. However, the world is different from other fantasy games, so that provides an interesting diversion from the norm. I think there is probably more bad than good, but if you are looking for an A-RPG which isn't the norm, and can be played offline, you may want to give Grim Dawn a look.

I also give a brief overview of what makes Elder Scrolls: Legends different from other online digital card games .Though my thoughts are a few months old, there are a few things that help ES:L stand out from the rest.

Podcast 260: On the headphones
July 23, 2016 - 22:44

- HyperX Cloud II headphones (0:19)

In this podcast I talk a bit about the new HyperX Cloud 2 headphones I got. They seem pretty solid, but lack the deep and high tones of previous headphones I've had. They are very sturdy construction, feel nice, are quite loud, and bock out external sounds. They ship with both faux-leather ear cuff and a cloth one, which you can switch. And they have a 4-pole plug so they can be used in mobile devices or new consoles, as well as a USB connection for attaching to PC.

Headphone;
HyperX Cloud II

Podcast 258: Killin' aliens
June 25, 2016 - 30:36

- XCOM 2 (0:17) (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

In this podcast I talk about XCOM 2; what makes it cool on its own, what's changed since the first one. The game takes place 20 years after the first, after the aliens have taken over the Earth. There is a new board game like element where you need to manage the events you go to and watch the clock. There is also a new loot system which helps your force stay strong, even if you lose soldiers. There are also two new resources, Intel and Supplies, which you'll have to balance spending on. Overall if you enjoyed the first, you'll enjoy the second.

Game;
XCOM 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Watch for;
Steam Summer Sale
Warcraft (2016) IMDB / YouTube trailer
Xbox Play Anywhere

Podcast 257: Be Witchin'
June 11, 2016 - 16:33

- Witcher 3 (0:19) (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

In this podcast I talk a bit more about my experience with Witcher 3. I still have much of the same opinion as before, but loot seems more limited, combat seems more pattern oriented, and I boggle at how easily you can die 'falling'.

Game;
Witcher 3 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

- Witcher 3 (0:19) (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

In this podcast I talk about my experience so far with Witcher 3. Someone got it for me as a gift, and I'd never played the previous games, but it seems a fun open world mix of the Batman Arkham games and elements of Jedi powers.

Witcher 3 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Watch for;
Overwatch (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Podcast 254: Paragons and Syrins
April 30, 2016 - 16:42

- Paragon (early test) (0:18)
- Syrinscape software (8:26)

In this podcast I talk about a peek of the Paragon test client. It's a new MOBA which is from a 3rd person perspective focusing more on action. However, I found it incredibly slow, and not very different from existing MOBAs, and the elements they were stressing would be different didn't seem different.

I took a look at some soundtrack software for role playing games called Syrinscape. You can get a few sound sets free and it seems like an interesting option for those looking to add some background sounds to the pen and paper (or board game) play.

Game;
Paragon (PC, PS4)

Other;
Syrinscape (PC, iOS, Android)

Watch for;
Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods (PC, iOS, Android)
Captain America: Civil War (2016) IMDB / YouTube trailer

Podcast 253: Battleborn beta
April 16, 2016 - 22:51

- Battleborn beta (beta) (1:33)
- Windows 10; no Blu-ray / DVD software included (10:11)

In this podcast I talk about the reasons why I was just not interested in Battleborn after spending only half an hour playing. For me the pacing doesn't feel right, it still feels odd to not have levels or traditional loot, and it really just feels like a game that does little more than taking the Gearbox style to an extreme and doing little more than something that's just fan service to the Borderlands fans.

I also talk briefly about my update to Windows 10, and the lack of native Blu-ray / DVD support.

Games;
Battleborn (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Podcast 252: Grouping and Guilds; because, reasons
April 2, 2016 - 16:22

- Grouping and guilds (1:46)

In this podcast I talk about the reasons why I tend to solo more often than I group, and why I tend to shy away from guilds. They are things I've talked about before, but I didn't have anything else and thought others might not have thought about why they do or don't.

Games;
Warframe (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Watch for;
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) IMDB / YouTube trailer

Pirate's booty (donations); Shawn R.

Podcast 251: Return to Warframe
March 19, 2016 - 24:13

- Warframe (PC, PS4, Xbox One) (1:05)

In this podcast I talk about my return to Warframe after probably a 2.5 year absense. If you missed the original podcast (#103); Warframe is a science fiction shooter which is loot based. It is free to play and though it feels a bit grindy due to not having a lot of content, it is on par with other current shooters in terms of looks and style. A lot has been done to alliviate the grind since I left, as well as a few new systems being put into place that make it a bit more interesting than it once was.

Games;
Warframe (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Watch for;
Elder Scroll's Online; Thieves's guild (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
Tom Clancy's The Division (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
Overwatch (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
