Podcast 350: Fallen Order and Cyberpunk close
January 9, 2021 - 27:35

- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (0:32)
- Cyberpunk 2077 (11:13)

In this podcast I ramble about how Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the best Star Wars games I've played. And, how it takes all of the good aspects of a "Souls-like" game, while leaving the bad behind, making it a great "Souls-lite" game.

I also completed my playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 at about 45 hours. Though I have lots of content left to do, I have several final thoughts about the game and my playthrough and what I thought about the open world nature.

Games;
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia)
Cyberpunk 2077 (PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series S/X)

Watch for;
Outriders (PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series)

Podcast 349: Cyberpunkin'
December 19, 2020 - 24:00

- Cyberpunk 2077 (0:42)

In this podcast I ramble a bit about Cyberpunk 2077. It's much more RPG than it is shooter, and that's fine with me. I would recommend taking it slower than you might feel you need to because it's worth enjoying. Character options get pretty deep, so be sure to make a rough plan of what you want to do as soon as you find what you enjoy.

* Edit note: When I was talking about the Blade and Pistol skill lines I should have said they are under Reflexes.

Cyberpunk 2077 (PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series S/X)

- Prey (0:29)

In this podcast I talk about my time so far with Prey, an older release from 2018. It's primarily a Sci Fi RPG, with some aspects of shooting. It's an odd mix, but does ok. It has an interesting story that's a bit slow to start, but seems interesting.

Podcast 342: Heeding the Call of Cthulhu
August 1, 2020 - 18:38

- Call of Cthulhu (0:22)

In this podcast I talk about my very limited time so far in Call of Cthulhu. This is a game which is a couple of years old, but is a rare one, as it's based in a pen and paper role playing game, in a cosmic horror setting; a genre that sees few and far between games. The story is very interesting, but the execution is not without its flaws. Mostly these are forgivable, however, because it's created by an independent studio.

Games;
Call of Cthulhu (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

Hardware;
Asus ROG Strix G17 - $2200 The ideal content creating and gaming laptop for me. 300 Hz monitor with pantone certification, 17", RTX 2070 Super graphics.
Acer ROG Strix G15 - $1500 A nearly ideal content creation and gaming laptop. 240 Hz 99% color acurate screen, 15", RTX 2070 graphics.
Acer Predator Helios 300 (2020) - $1200 A very solid content creation and gaming laptop. 144Hz 75% color acurate screen, 15", RTX 2060 graphics.
Western Digital Black SN750, 1 tb M.2 - $150 an ideal hard drive upgrade, especially for the systems that only have a base 512 gig.

I also talk a bit about XCOM: Chimera Squad. It feels very different from previous XCOM games, but retains a lot of the core feel of the world, as well as the in-combat strategy.

January 18, 2020 - 18:43

- Phoenix Point (0:30)

In this podcast I ramble a little bit about a game I played briefly that I had been looking forward to for years; Phoenix Point. It trades the streamlined nature of play of the recent Firaxis XCOM games for a level of complexity which some, who are not me, may enjoy.

Podcast 331: Hellblade and rambling
December 7, 2019 - 17:04

- Hellblade (00:27)

In this podcast I ramble a little bit about Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. It's an amazing game, but due to visual and audio experimental effects, as well as dealing with subject matter of mental illness, I don't know that I'd recommend it for everyone. And in the close I have a bit of a sad life update.

Podcast 330: Outer Worlds, other dragons
November 16, 2019 - 25:48

- Outer Worlds (0:40)
- The Elder Scrolls Online: Dragonhold / Southern Elsweyr (11:19)
- Destiny 2: New Light (15:03)

In this podcast I ramble about the Outer Worlds, which I played on PC through the Xbox Game Pass for only $1. It's a really great RPG (sci-fi) shooter. There is tons of dialogue, and all NPCs are voiced. The worlds are really great, as is the music. But as is typical for this kind of game I found myself getting more disinterested the more I played, as leveling curved out and it became very easy, in addition to the quests feeling very unimportant.

In the second section I talk about Elder Scrolls Online's Dragonhold DLC, which expands the story which was started with the base Elsweyr content.

And in the final section I talk about why I am unlikely to play Destiny 2 again.

Games;
Destiny 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
The Elder Scrolls Online: Dragonhold / Southern Elsweyr (PC/Mac, PS4, Xbox One)
Xbox Game Pass (on PC)

October 5, 2019 - 32:25

- Destiny 2: New Light / Shadowkeep (0:32)
- Magic: The Gathering, Arena. (18:01)

In this podcast I ramble about the re-launch of Destiny 2, so-called New Light, and the peek we free players get at Shadowkeep content. I only have had a brief preview of what's different from before, but as a currently free player it looks like they have changed a lot of the gap between what is free and what is paid for content, and I no longer feel pushed away not having the most recent content like I did in the past.

I also briefly talk about Magic the Gathering: Arena and how it's changed since I last tried the beta.

Games;
Destiny 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
Magic: The Gathering, Arena (PC)

August 24, 2019 - 21:58

- Remnant: From the Ashes (0:17)

In this podcast I ramble about Remnant: From the Ashes, a very strategic and different shooter compared to other modern shooters. Remnant takes place on alien infested worlds, and you fight to survive in dynamically generated environments. With solid gunplay, tons of character customization, and very interesting environments and enemies, this is easily one of the best shooters I've played, if not the absolute best.

- Angry Birds 2 (0:14)
- Castle Cats (5:26)

In this podcast I ramble about two mobile games; Angry Birds 2 and Castle Cats. Angry Birds 2 is very similar at its core to the original Angry Birds. But it seems to highly encourage you to go online, and has indications micro transactions might become an issue at later levels. Castle Cats looks like a super cute quest management kind of game where you manage your cat army and send them off on quests.

I also give final review thoughts on Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, which is a turn based strategy game which while one of the best games of its type, has limited replayability due to static mission areas.

- Rambling about questionable game advertising practicies (5:38)

In this podcast I ramble about Pigeon Wings Strike, an 'endless runner' where you are flying along in the sky trying to pass pigeons.

I also talk a bit about how we, as gamers, should stop pre-ordering games, and need to pay very close attention to what developers say about a game, and what actually there is at launch compared to what was promised, and what there should be.

Games;

March 17, 2018 - 22:58

- Various games (0:43)

In this podcast I ramble about how I've pretty much stopped playing Destiny 2, why I will probably stop playing Overwatch (again), how I might be interested in Warhammer: Vermintide 2, and the direction the gaming industry seems to be moving in terms of multiplayer games.

Note that while certainly good, the sound quality is not as good as it normally is. I'm still super sick so there was a lot of extra pop type noises, and I seem to have forgotten to use my popper stopper (set it aside then forgot to use it when recording). And it was raining a bit, so that may have messed with the white noise cleaning, so sorry for that.
